Make Better Choices 2 (MBC2) employs technology to help you eat better, sleep better, reduce stress, and get more exercise. Participants in this free research study will use a health app, Fitbits, and health coaching to make changes.

The goal of the research study is to test whether MBC2 promotes healthy changes in people in Eastern Kentucky.

Nancy E. Schoenberg, Ph.D. is leading the study team. Dr Schoenberg is a professor of behavioral science in UK’s College of Medicine. Deanna Lee Sherman, who lives in Harlan County, is the study’s project manager. Many members of local communities have contributed to the project’s design. 

For the past 16 years, Dr. Schoenberg has worked with talented and committed local residents to create health programming that people feel is important. Her projects include Faith Moves Mountains, a program to manage diabetes. 

As part of this current project, participants will:

  • Use a new health app and a Fitbit to track health behaviors
  • Work with a trained health coach
  • Receive $ incentives for meeting goals

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Live in an Appalachian County
  • Are willing to participate in 3 health checks at UK Health Care in Lexington, St Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, our study office in Benham or your local health provider's office
