Building Strong Research
BERD is the central hub for helping all UK researchers navigate the quantitative resources on campus. If you don't know where to go, start here!
Learn more about our services, and how to request them, below.

I need:
-
a quantitative collaborator to join my team.
Our BERD team specializes in analytic resource navigation which is available to any CCTS member. Working with our campus network of quantitative experts, BERD makes connections between investigators and quantitative collaborators. These pairings are based on investigator/team needs, such as statistical methodologies or domain knowledge, in the hopes of creating long-term and successful collaborations. To request this service, submit a CCTS Service Request form, check "BERD" under the list of services, and indicate that you are looking for a quantitative collaborator. Our BERD Program Manager will reach out to discuss next steps!
-
to submit a CCTS pilot proposal.
BERD has partnered with the CCTS Pilot Funding Program to evaluate study design, data collection strategies, and analysis plans for CCTS pilot applications. This review typically takes 1-2 weeks to complete. To request a review of your pilot proposal, open the CCTS Service Request form, check "BERD" under the list of services, and indicate that the BERD request is related to a pilot application.
-
a data extract.
BERD highly recommends a study design consultation before data extraction and analyses to make sure data can answer the research question(s) appropriately.
The CCTS is the leading resource on campus for electronic health records (EHR) data and serves as the honest broker to data from UK HealthCare, UK Health Plan, KMSF, Merative MarketScan Research Databases, HIDOSD, and the American Hospital Association Annual Survey. More information on data extraction consultation and data services provided by the CCTS Biomedical Informatics (BMI) Core can be found here. BERD frequently partners with the CCTS BMI core to provide joint data extraction and study design consultations to maximize efficiency in data acquisition.
To request a joint BERD/BMI consultation regarding data availability/extraction, open the CCTS Service Request form, check both "BERD" and “BMI” under the list of services. When prompted for a description of statistical needs, please include "I need a data extraction and a joint consultation." Our BERD and BMI Program Managers will reach out to discuss next steps.
-
expert advice on study design, data collection strategies, analysis planning, or interpreting results.
BERD provides study design and statistical analysis consultations to any CCTS member via virtual meetings. Our BERD team is comprised of faculty and staff biostatisticians with a range of analytical expertise to best support your research needs. When completing the CCTS Service Request form, please check "BERD" under the list of services. When prompted for a description of statistical needs please include "I need a consultation on study design, data collection strategies, analysis planning, or interpreting results," and provide an overview of your study or research topic(s). Our BERD Program Manager will reach out to discuss the next steps.
-
training on biostatistical and epidemiological concepts
BERD hosts a monthly virtual seminar series called BERD BITES ("Bringing Information Together to Educate Scholars"). BERD BITES provides opportunities for the CCTS and campus community to learn about a wide range of methodological topics, from foundational concepts to cutting edge innovations. Interested in attending BERD BITES? Join the CCTS community to receive event information from our member email list!
Looking for a quick educational resource on an analytical topic? Check out Biostats4You, a free website developed to serve medical and public health researchers and professionals who wish to learn more about biostatistics. The site contains carefully selected and reviewed training materials especially suited for a non-statistician audience.

something else.
BERD is happy to support our CCTS and campus research teams on any analytical topic. Please complete the CCTS Service Request form, check "BERD" under the list of services, and when prompted for a description of statistical needs please include "I want to talk to a biostatistician," and provide an overview of your analytical needs. Our BERD Program Manager will reach out to discuss the next steps!
