Stoops Interviewed by APA about Substance Use During the Pandemic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 2, 2021) — William Stoops, PhD, professor of behavioral science, psychiatry and psychology and director of the CCTS regulatory knowledge and support core, was recently interviewed by the American Psychological Association about substance use during the pandemic. The article explored ways that psychologists and other clinicians can help greater number of patients struggling with drug use, especially as opioid and stimulant use are on the rise. 

“There’s sort of a perfect storm of factors that we know increase drug use,” he said. “People are more stressed and isolated, so they make unhealthy decisions, including drinking more and taking drugs.”
