LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 4, 2026) — Effective mentorship accelerates research careers and bridges the gap between scientific discovery and improved health outcomes across the commonwealth. High-quality, evidence-based mentor training is critical in developing these highly effective research teams.

To continue building a robust culture of mentoring excellence at the University of Kentucky, applications are open for faculty and senior staff to serve as certified facilitators for mentor training workshops. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. EST, Monday July 6.

"This is an exceptional opportunity to champion professional development and support excellence in mentoring across the university," said Vicky King, the CCTS career development director.

Selected facilitators will receive support from the CCTS to undergo training through the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research, or CIMER. This program certifies facilitators through an evidence-based, highly interactive curriculum. Once certified, facilitators join a multidisciplinary team of institutional trainers who lead mentor training workshops.

The CCTS is seeking dedicated individuals who are eager to share their experience and help shape the mentoring landscape at the University of Kentucky. This opportunity is open to UK faculty or senior staff members who are committed to enhancing effective mentoring practices, have experience mentoring faculty, trainees, students or research staff, have demonstrated strong communication and group facilitation skills, and can secure support from their department or division leadership to participate.

Selected facilitators are expected to successfully complete the approved facilitator training program and then facilitate faculty mentor training workshops at least twice per year, requiring a six-hour commitment each time. Additionally, facilitators may be asked to participate in meetings and program evaluation activities, and they will serve as champions for mentoring excellence within their home departments and colleges.

To apply, candidates should visit the CCTS Mentor Training webpage for instructions on submitting application materials. This includes a brief statement of interest detailing prior mentoring experience, motivation for serving as a facilitator and how the role aligns with professional goals. Applications must also include a current CV highlighting mentoring history and outcomes, along with contact information for two professional references who can speak to the applicant's facilitation skills. Submissions will be competitively evaluated based on demonstrated mentoring experience, commitment to UK’s clinical and translational mentoring culture and readiness to fulfill all facilitation expectations.

The deadline for all application materials is 5 p.m. Monday, July 6. Selection notifications will be sent on Monday, Aug. 3, the next scheduled mentor training workshops at the University of Kentucky is Nov. 2.
