Participants invited for a research study about breathing, emotional states, and music
Participants invited for a research study about breathing, emotional states, and music

Researchers with the UK Department of Biomedical Engineering invite musician and non-musician volunteers to participate in a study that will investigate how breathing pathway (nasal vs. oral) affects the electrical oscillations of the brain, heart, and processing of emotion induced by music. For this study, volunteers will listen to several audio pieces while non-invasive measurements of heart rate (EKG), breathing, and electrical signals from the scalp (EEG) are made.

The study will be conducted in the Department of Biomedical Engineering on the main campus of the UKY in one session lasting about 2.5 hours.

Musicians are encouraged to participate. We define musicians as ones who are playing any musical instruments for at least three years.

You will be compensated for your participation.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

• Are between 18-35 years old;

• Do NOT smoke;

• Are NOT pregnant; and

• Do NOT have high blood pressure.
