Volunteers Needed for a Study on the Cellular Effects of Massage on Human Skeletal Muscle

Researchers at the University of Kentucky are seeking individuals to participate in a 9 day study to determine the cellular effects of massage on healthy and shrinking skeletal muscle tissue. Depending on which group you are randomized into, this could involve 6 visits to campus, 4 blood draws, 3 thigh muscle biopsies, ingestion of heavy water for 9 days, 4 massages, and utilizing a knee immobilizer and crutches for 7 days.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

• Are 18-30 years old;

• Have a BMI < 27;

• Have not had previous lower extremity surgery; and

• Do not currently have a lower extremity injury.

You will be compensated up to $375 for your time.
