Professional Student Mentored Research Fellowship (PSMRF)

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science provides mentored research fellowships in clinical and translational science (CTS) for professional students.  This 12 to 18 month fellowship provides the student with a $3,000 stipend for participating in CTS research with a faculty mentor at the University of Kentucky.  It is expected that students will publish and/or present the results of their research.

Eligibility:

Students enrolled in professional clinical training programs, including MD, DMD, PharmD, Public Health, Clinical Psychology, Nursing DNP and Physician’s Assistant Programs.  Students must have completed the ICR Summer Workshop or Spring semester seminar (MD815) and identified a faculty mentor at the University of Kentucky. To maintain fellowship eligibility, students are required to submit evaluations on their research projects prior to receiving stipend disbursements.  Mentors will also be required to submit evaluations of the student’s progress.

Program Details:

Students awarded the fellowship will receive a stipend of $3,000.  The stipend will be distributed at three intervals during the fellowship period.   The applicant and mentor will develop a detailed research training program focused on an ongoing clinical and translational research project under the mentor’s supervision.  Research training is generally completed in a 12 month interval, although it is possible to extend the training to 18 months if consecutive summers are required.

Program Application:

Applications are accepted twice a year (January and April).  To submit an application please contact Barbara Hurst (bghurs1@uky.edu) who will provide the REDCap link for the current application period.   A sample application is provided as a template for project development with your mentor.  All applicants must be in good academic standing in their respective professional programs.  Following review by the Admissions Committee, applicants will be notified of their status.
