BDRE - MISSION STATEMENT
The supporting infrastructure to ensure sound and ethical study design is an essential component of the CCTS. Faculty from core academic disciplines in biostatistics and statistics serve the biostatistical, study design, and data analysis needs of investigators and are integral to the protocol approval process within the UK GCRC. These quantitative scientists, led by Dr. Richard Kryscio, Dept. of Biostatistics, have achieved numerous high-level data management successes on such projects as Biostatistics on such projects as the Biostatics & Data Management Core for UK’s NIH-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC).
However, rapid clinical and translational research expansion at UK as a result of the research agenda outlined in UK’s Top 20 Business Plan and the establishment of the CCTS & growing UK involvement as a clinical trial site and coordinating center for multi-center clinical trials have created significant needs for broader quantitative support. Since systematic access to biostatistical support occurs primarily through existing UK GCRC, the need to provide broaderaccess through more comprehensive presence is essential to the research transformations occurring at UK. Emerging research needs also mandate the provision of four new resources for 1) data analysis, 2) data management, 3) clinical and translational research ethics, & 4) population-based study design. Since current services focus primarily on biostatistics issues, it is critical that UK expand not only the scope of services offered but also the types of expertise needed to expand service.
