Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University, located in Boone, North Carolina, has joined UK's CCTS to explore expansion of collaborative research projects to the Appalachian regions of North Carolina.
Appalachian is a public institution in the University of North Carolina system. Its fall 2008 enrollment of 16,628 included 14,573 undergraduates with an average entering SAT of 1160, and 2,055 graduate students in five colleges and one graduate school offering 99 undergraduate majors and 68 graduate degree programs.
Appalachian has 2,718 full- and part-time employees, and 99.7 percent of its 737 full-time faculty hold a terminal degree. Its FY08 research portfolio of over $15 million included CCTS-relevant research, such as the Childhood Obesity Project, the Rural Nurses Retention Study, and the Methamphetamine Intervention Project.
A new College of Health Sciences and Allied Professions has just been approved. Appalachian has become the most recent addition to the North Carolina Research Campus at Kannapolis, with a Human Performance Laboratory and research focus on exercise, natural supplements, and the immune system.
