Biochemical Analysis Laboratory
The functions of the Biochemical Analysis Laboratory (BAL) are to provide sophisticated support to CCTS-approved protocols, and to develop and validate new methods. In general, routine tests (blood chemistries, hematological determinations and urinalyses) are performed in the hospital's clinical chemistry laboratories.
All current and potential CCTS investigators are encouraged to inquire about any assay or analytical technique that may prove useful in carrying out their protocols. We are always interested in developing new assays, or adapting assays established in basic research or in a different branch of medicine to a specific clinical research protocol. The experienced staff of the BAL will work with investigators to prepare and test new assays for use.
In addition to developing new assays, the BAL staff is very experienced in providing a range of established assays, helping to decide if proposed assays are appropriate, and assisting in assembling cost estimates for the research supply component of CCTS protocol budgets.
