Peter Sawaya, MD

Peter Sawaya, MD, co-director, Research Education, Training and Career Development (PSMRF), is professor of medicine and director of the Division of Nephrology Fellowship Training Program. Dr. Sawaya has served as the director of the Professional Student Mentored Research Fellowship (PSMRF), which provides funding to support 20-25 professional students per year engaged in mentored research, since its inception in 2004. He is course director for the “Introduction to Clinical Research” course which attracts over 50 professional students annually and serves as the gateway requirement for the Fellowship program. Dr. Sawaya is an outstanding educator and mentor, having received the top College of Medicine awards in these categories on 12 occasions during the past 15 years.
