Biomedical Informatics Core

The mission of the Biomedical Informatics Core (BIC) is to provide UK investigators and community health care researchers and providers with the tools and support necessary to promote the translation of scientific breakthroughs to advance the health and healthcare of the people of the commonwealth and beyond. This is accomplished through the integration and implementation of enhanced data systems and strategically developed informatics architecture and processes and the development of research capability in biomedical informatics.

The guiding principles of BIC are described in the following three specific aims.

1. Provide an accessible, high-quality biomedical informatics infrastructure through the integration of current information technology, computer science, biomedical, and bioinformatics resources within UK and UKHealthCare to support clinical care, education, research and the shared pool of knowledge within and outside of the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA).

2. Coordinate a biomedical informatics research program, building on existing BIC expertise. This aim includes the coordination and expansion of existing research activities related to biomedical informatics with investigators within and outside UK.

3. Provide education to researchers to maximize the impact of the BIC. This aim includes the coordination and expansion of existing educational activities related to biomedical informatics including outreach activities with physicians and investigators within and outside UK.
